Our infatuation for Yemeni coffee gets deeper with this gem produced by Sabcomeed in Al Udain, which is the birthplace of the ancient Udaini coffee varietal.
The naturally produced coffee takes you on a journey to another time and place. It has a complex cup profile but is also quite approachable at the same time.
Tasting notes: Watermelon, Black Tea, Fig, Peach, Rosewater
This is our fifth coffee from Yemen that we've had on our offerings in the last 12 months - all produced by Sabcomeed. You could say we're a little obsessed with this origin.
☕ Cup score: 87.00
Yemen is a complex origin, with frustrating in-country logistics and a shaky economical landscape. Miraculously, this translates to complex cup profiles and varietals.
This Grade AA Udaini from Al Udain was purchased via Direct Trade by our green coffee organization WE THE ORIGIN, directly from Yemeni coffee producer Sabcomeed.
ABOUT SABCOMEED
Sabcomeed is a collective of specialty coffee producers focused on traceable, high-quality micro lots and other single origin specialty Yemeni coffees.
“Yemen has become the largest humanitarian crisis in the world,” states the UN. There are 24 million people in need of aid. Yemen has exported coffee globally for almost 500 years and their economy is tied to global coffee consumption.
In this video message below, Abdulrahman Saeed from Sabcomeed shares a simple way for us to buy coffee and help the people of Yemen.
