CIKOLE: Indonesia West Java Anaerobic

A berry and fruit-forward gem, this coffee is winey in the cup and reminds us of gummy bears. 

There are beautiful jasmine florals throughout, and a cacao layer that emerges as the cup cools. This coffee has a finish that you will not want to end!

This anaerobic natural process coffee, along with Banyan Tree West Java, challenged our perceptions of coffee from Indonesia and from Asia in general. These are not your typical Indonesian coffees.

The Typica varietal was produced by Jakub Lazuardi in the coffee regions of Cikole in West Java, Indonesia.

This coffee is part of our Transparent Origin lineup, in which we share the price paid to coffee producers.

COFFEE PRODUCTION IN CIKOLE

This typica varietal is picked from the lush forest of Maribaya, just slightly northeast of Indonesia’s fourth largest city, Bandung.

Bandung is located on the western side of Indonesia’s most populous island Java, and is directly east of the largest active volcano in the region, Tankuban Perahu. The coffee plantation is situated deep in the forest, surrounded by small villages where many of the farmers who tend the coffee live.

Jakub Lazuardi is the head processor at Cikole Estate. He is a very innovative coffee processor with a great passion for experimenting and trying new things. Jakub grew up near Medan (on the neighbouring island of Sumatra), where his family owns their own coffee farm.
